Zentangle drawings are drawings of structured patterns by repetitional lines. A Zentangle’s intertwining patterns have a flow and rhythm to them, which seperate them from being just doodles. Zentangles are meant to help one relax, increase focus and inspire one's creativity. There are many techniques used in Zentangle drawings, but in our activity we focused on three important ones: shade, overlapping, and dimension. I have learned how these techniques can be used to improve your artwork and how they add to the basic and complex parts of the artwork. Zentangles also include many elements of art like line which help in overlapping and dimension, form in the overlapping shapes and lines, shape in the overlapping figures, and space between different shadings. The other elements of art are color, texture, and value.

Drawing Excercise: Pinecone Hatching & Crosshatching
The color wheel is a tool used in art that shows the foundation colors used. In the color wheel, the primary colors are red, yellow and blue. The secondary colors are green, orange and purple, and are created by mixing two of the primary colors from the color wheel. The colors on the color wheel are classified into two groups: cool colors and warm colors. Warm colors are more bright and cool colors are more calm, and soothing. Colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel are called complementary colors. Analogous color are colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. They usually go together well and look nice in artwork. The intermediate colors are the "two-name colors" or colors with two names like yellow orange or red orange. A triad is the three color scheme on a color wheel.

Project #1: Gyotaku print
GYO means fish, TAKU means print, rubbing, or impression in Japanese.Early Japanese used this method of recording the size and type of their catch. It wasn't long before they realized that the images were beautiful art. First I painted a fish with watercolor without letting it get too wet, then took paper and patted the fish all over. Once the fish was properly patted, the paper was set out to dry. The next day I went back in the print and modified it with water color colored pencils and stuck to the same color scheme. Then the paper was ready to me mounted on backing paper. I took a soft short brush and stroked from the center out with rice glue. Then I set the backing paper on top and glued it to the board. Lastly, once it dried overnight, the next day I cut it off the board with an exact-o-knife. I used a red-orange scheme on my fish and I think I choose those colors because on the palate I chose to paint with they were the most outstanding of them all. They seemed to catch my attention unlike the others. The colors felt alive and enthusiastic. I felt my print was kind of bland and uninteresting until I went back in and modified it giving it highlights of sanding color. I feel very successful with this project because I think my fish turned out well.
To be a self-directed learner means a student that manages and takes responsibility for their own learning individually. I think I have done well being a self directed learner because it gives me time to work at my own pace and allows me to understand steps more meticulously. I planned out my schedule for the days I would be doing certain steps like water coloring one day then modifying two and then gluing of the print. I also took advantage of my free time by working on my graphite drawing when applicable. Once I finished modifying, I took all my materials to the sink and cleaned up after myself.

Assignment #10 ECU Reflection
I attended ECU's Art Education Day and honestly, before I went, I was expecting to be in a classroom having an art class all day. While we did learn about art most of the day, I was highly interested in the topics the student embassadors showed us, and saw art more as a career than a hobby. I learned a lot about the different art classes available to college students and how they function. There were very passionate and gifted artist i got to see working. Overall, it was very enriching and I am glad I had the opportunity to attend.
